Pizza Base
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 ½ cups high grade flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon yeast
METHOD:
- Mix water, honey, salt and yeast in a large bowl or mixer with dough hook attachment. Let it sit for about 10 minutes – it should go frothy
- Add flour and olive oil
- Mix until dough becomes heavy
- Tip onto lightly floured bench
- Knead well until dough feels silky and smooth
- Knead into a ball (you can add more flour if dough is too stick or water if too dry – it’s best to do this in very small amounts)
- Coat dough in olive oil and place in a clean bowl and cover with gladwrap and leave for 1 hour in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size.
- Gently knead into shape of pizza
- Roll with rolling pin
- Let it sit for another 15-20 minutes
- Prick with fork then add your favourite toppings
- Cook for 20-25 minutes at 180-200°
